Lord

Quick Update

He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong ~ 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

It’s been almost a year since I last posted to the site, turns out that the illness was serious and last September I was finally diagnosed with late stage bowel cancer. The past six months have been busy, between surgery, chemotherapy and fatigue I haven’t had much time for study or writing but now I’ve started to put a few things together which should be ready to post soon. While the updates may not be as regular as before, I will endeavour to keep this site going as long as possible, as long as the Lord gives me strength and ability to do so. I don’t claim to know God’s purpose for this trial but am confident that He is with me and whatever happens will be for His glory.

God bless,
Mark

What time is it?

Don’t worry I haven’t forgotten about the “Mexican Standoff” series, I have been quite ill over the past month and am just now starting to recover. Earlier today I was reading one of Paul Washers sermon transcripts and this quote really stuck with me…..

It is though with one hand God is holding back His justice against this world and with another hand He is pleading for men to come, but one day both hands will be dropped. You know that don’t you? ~ Paul Washer

I realised that for almost 2000 years this world has had the Gospel of Jesus Christ; from the apostles, missionaries, evangelists, preachers, teachers and every Christian man and woman who has proclaimed, defended and shared it with the lost throughout the world. Paul brought it to Spain, Peter brought it to Rome, Philip to Asia Minor, Wesley, Whitefield, Judson and Gardiner to the Americas. There are very few places left on Earth where God’s Word has not been heard and every day His people are risking their lives to reach them with the truth so that they may be saved. Thank God that even in the most hostile nations tens of thousands of people are still coming to faith in Christ Jesus.

True Christians can clearly see the wickedness of the world today, the increase and acceptance of sin, many being led into false teachings, the rise of false prophets…..we shouldn’t be surprised of course, we’ve had almost 2000 years notice. We are looking for the coming of the day of God and a day where all this wickedness ends but don’t forget on that day both hands will be dropped; the unsaved will be without excuse as Gods justice is unleashed.

Now more than ever it’s time to stand firm, never be deterred in doing the work God has given you, the world won’t like it, they’ll oppose you, mock you and even persecute you for they also know the time is short. Even as Christians our lives here are still like a vapour, gone in a moment, so please don’t waste an opportunity, we’ve had 2000 years already but our work isn’t done until the Lord calls us home.

How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? How will they preach unless they are sent?…..
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. ~ Romans 10:14-17

He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation” ~ Mark 16:15

Give Him your heart

Give Me your heart, My son and let your eyes delight in My ways ~ Proverbs 23:26

I’ll be blunt, life can be hectic, especially at this time of the year with “the holidays” around the corner. We watch everyone rushing around trying to get things ready for Christmas, going out of their way to buy gifts for loved ones. Of course sometimes we can get caught up in it all too and may not even notice ourselves spending less time in prayer, or being preoccupied with what still has to be done while the pastor gives a sermon, forgetting to read our Bibles daily or even thinking we cannot spare a moment just to be still in the presence of the Lord.

Now as this is commonly known as the season of charity and good will towards men and while our intentions may be sincere, we convince ourselves busyness is a necessity, we strive to do our utmost to give family and friends what they want but are we neglecting to give God what He wants from us?
Those of us who are truly born again have already received the greatest gift possible, one the world could never give and can never take away, our salvation through Christ’s death and resurrection. In return God has asked for your heart, your devotion and obedience, have you given it to Him? He wants all of it, not just whatever we have to spare.

When the Lord asks for your heart it’s not a selfish demand, it’s ultimately for our benefit. After committing adultery, King David fell, a broken man he pleaded with God for forgiveness, crying out “Create in me a clean heart…..” (Psalm 51). David knew that he couldn’t fix his own heart and that in its current state it would never be acceptable to God. When the Lord takes our heart He replaces it with a new one, the old dead flesh is crucified; we are given new hopes, new desires, new loves, new joys through the Holy Spirit and the promises of His Word, we will delight in His ways and no longer in our own. Knowing that God alone can break through the hardened heart, mend the broken one and uplift the downcast one, all He asks is that we give it over to Him.

Unfortunately for many, this season is also a time of sadness and heartache, for others a time of reflection on what the year has brought them, good or bad. This is true of both the Christian and unbeliever, our hearts can still be broken, we’ll still face many tribulations in this world, Jesus said that we would (John 16:33). However we should never despair if our faith is in Him, so whether you’re out rushing around in the weeks ahead or alone in the darkest hours of the night, never forget we can always call upon the Lord, knowing that the One who saved you will never let you go, He will continue to lift up your head, He only asks that you humble yourself before His majesty and give Him your heart. God Bless

God speaks of His Almighty Sovereign Power……(Isaiah 45:18-25)

18 For thus says the LORD, who created the heavens (He is the God who formed the earth and made it, He established it and did not create it a waste place, but formed it to be inhabited),
            “I am the LORD, and there is none else.

      19“I have not spoken in secret,
            In some dark land;
            I did not say to the offspring of Jacob,
            ‘Seek Me in a waste place’;
            I, the LORD, speak righteousness,
            Declaring things that are upright.

      20“Gather yourselves and come;
            Draw near together, you fugitives of the nations;
            They have no knowledge,
            Who carry about their wooden idol
            And pray to a god who cannot save.

      21“Declare and set forth your case;
            Indeed, let them consult together.
            Who has announced this from of old?
            Who has long since declared it?
            Is it not I, the LORD?
            And there is no other God besides Me,
            A righteous God and a Saviour;
            There is none except Me.

      22“Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth;
            For I am God, and there is no other.

      23“I have sworn by Myself,
            The word has gone forth from My mouth in righteousness
            And will not turn back,
            That to Me every knee will bow, every tongue will swear allegiance.

      24“They will say of Me, ‘Only in the LORD are righteousness and strength.’
            Men will come to Him,
            And all who were angry at Him will be put to shame.

      25“In the LORD all the offspring of Israel
            Will be justified and will glory.”

The heaviness of God…

This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil….. – Hebrews 6:19

The heaviness of the enemy is like a persistent storm beating against the side of a ship; on the surface it looks hopeless. However, God’s heaviness is like the anchor holding it, keeping it safe, steady, secure throughout and despite the storm.
